Anthony T. Woart, Ph.D., MBA, MA

Anthony T. Woart Holds a Ph.D. with specialization in Medical Sociology and sub-specialty in Complex Organizations from Boston University, Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Woart also holds an MBA degree with specialization in finance and a MA in Sociology both from Jackson State University, Jackson, Mississippi. He is currently Professor and Chair, Department of Public Health at Marshall University. He is also founder and director of the Minority Health Institute at Marshall University. The overarching goal of the Minority Health Institute is to address the burden of health disparities through research and health promotion. Dr. Woart’s research focuses on infectious chronic diseases among minority and vulnerable populations.  As director of the Minority Health Institute, Dr. Woart has received grant awards totaling more than 2.5 million dollars for his work focusing on minority and vulnerable populations in efforts to reduce the burden of health disparities among West Virginia’s minority subpopulations. He is a 2005 recipient of Minority Access Inc.’s Role Model Faculty Research Award for Exemplary Achievements in Research Worthy of Emulation. He has served on a number National Institutes of Health (NIH) research review panels.
