Free class open to the public April 23 in Wheeling

CHARLESTON, WV — The Herbert Henderson Office of Minority Affairs is partnering with WV Legal Aid’s Financial Exploitation Division to offer a financial literacy class for members of the public in Wheeling.

The free class will take place on Tuesday, April 23, at 6 p.m. It will be held at the following location:

WV Northern Community College
B&O Building Room 316-B
1704 Market Street
Wheeling, WV 26003

The class focuses on money scams, smart planning and what obstacles come with being unbanked or underbanked. Unbanked/underbanked households rely on cash and have little or no access to checking or savings accounts, credit cards or other traditional financial services.

“Access to mainstream banking services is a problem that many people of moderate to low income face,” said Jill Upson, executive director of HHOMA. “A financial literacy class is the perfect opportunity to help people expand their knowledge in ways that can allow them to protect themselves and make wise financial decisions.”

The financial literacy class is free and open to the public. Dinner and refreshments are provided.  To reserve a seat, call HHOMA at 304-356-2023 or email HHOMA@ wv.gov.
