2025 Recipient of the Governor’s Living the Dream Award

Tara Mayson, Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and President of the Hope Dealer Project, is a remarkable leader and compassionate advocate. With an unyielding dedication to helping those struggling with substance abuse and families affected by addiction, Ms. Mayson founded the Hope Dealer Project in 2015.

Tara's passion for creating a collaborative recovery community has been the driving force behind the organization's success. Aside from her work with The Hope Dealer Project, Tara also chairs a local Naranon Family Group which has met weekly since 2016. This role reflects her commitment to supporting families affected by addiction, creating a safe space for them to share their experiences and find solace. 

In 2017, Tara Mayson received well-deserved acclaim when her organization was voted as one of West Virginia's Wonder Women. This recognition highlights her exceptional leadership abilities and her unwavering commitment to her cause. Her work has gained national attention and recognition, with features in CBS News, People Magazine, and The New Yorker's "The Addicts Next Door" story. 

In 2020, Tara founded VividVision Youth and Community Outreach, a youth and community initiative of The Hope Dealer Project. This initiative aims to assist economically challenged families in her community. VividVision organizes impactful events such as the Back-to-School Supply Drive and Halloween Trunk or Treats, engaging the youth in meaningful activities while addressing the needs of underprivileged families. In 2023, Tara expanded the scope of The Hope Dealer Project by adding Martinsburg Goes Purple and Shepherdstown Goes Purple followed by an even more impactful endorsement by the Governor. His proclamation for the entire state as West Virginia Goes Purple furthered the mission to combat addiction and support those in need. 

Beyond her role as a Founder, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and President, Tara is a single mom, balancing her responsibilities with her full-time job with the United States Government for fifteen years. Her ability to manage these roles while spearheading a vital nonprofit speaks volumes about her dedication and perseverance. Tara Mayson's approach to her work is characterized by her judgment-free and compassionate demeanor. She firmly believes in empowering other women and continuously seeks to grow her team, fostering a sense of unity and support within the organization. Tara Mayson's dedication, leadership, and compassion have been instrumental in building a strong and supportive community to combat addiction and help families find hope and healing. Her legacy as The Hope Dealer Project's Founder, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and President will undoubtedly continue to transform lives for years to come.

Roslyn B. Queen
Recipient Living the Dream Award
Human and Civil Rights

Roslyn B. Queen, a native of Harrison County, has served as Executive Director of the West Virginia Italian Festival for twenty years. In addition, she serves as President of the Progressive Women’s Association, and in this capacity, she initiated and still chairs the Women of Distinction Committee. This committee honors African American women for their contribution through their volunteer efforts.

Roslyn B. Queen embodies the spirit and values that Dr. King championed throughout his life. Her unwavering commitment to equality and community advocacy is demonstrated through the significant contributions that she has made in her community through her involvement in the Women of Distinction Program. In this capacity she supports and uplifts women in various capacities and all ethnic groups. In Clarksburg, WV under her direction, women are celebrated in three separate events. One such celebration is Black History month where ten African American women are celebrated annually in February. Also, as a member of the Progressive Women’s Association, she actively engages in initiatives aimed at empowering women.

In addition to her work with women’s advocacy, Rosalyn plays a vital role in the Italian Heritage Festival. Through her involvement, she fosters a sense of community and pride among participants, celebrating diversity while building connections among residents. Her efforts to promote inclusivity and collaboration among different culture groups resonate with Dr. King’s vision of unity and understanding among all people.

Mrs. Queen has served as the President of the Visitors’ Bureau of Harrison County, and she is the past president of the Harrison County Cancer Association. She also holds a position on the Board of Directors of the Harrison Arts Council. Currently, she is a member of the Clarksburg Lions Club, the Sons and Daughters of Italy, and actively participates in the Clarksburg Farmers Market. She has been recognized by festival and fair organizations across the country for her innovative ideas in corporate and sponsor fundraising.

Her passion for her heritage and all ethnic groups and community continues to inspire those around her, making her a vital figure in preserving the rich cultural tapestry of West Virginia. She is married to Harrison County Magistrate Fray Queen, and they are the proud parents of four children. She is also blessed with children and grandchildren.
