CHARLESTON, W.Va. -Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin today joined representatives from the Herbert Henderson Office of Minority Affairs, West Virginia State University and community leaders from across the state to recognize the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s march on Washington D.C. and his famous "I have a dream" speech. The Let Freedom Ring commemoration held at the State Capitol featured local children and young advocates who are working toward freedom and equality for all.

"Half a century has passed and we continue to make progress toward Dr. King's dream," Gov. Tomblin said. "Today, our young people-like the West Virginia State University students gathered here-are focused on freedom to prosper in life, freedom to peacefully co-exist, and freedom to participate in government. I'm grateful for their dedication because our children are relying on all of us to continue to pursue Dr. King's dream."

Led by the King Center in Atlanta, a world-wide bell ringing took place in many communities at 3 p.m. EST to commemorate this historic anniversary.
