HHOMA meets with Governor’s Student Panel at Capital High School as part of 2019 Statewide Listening Tour

CHARLESTON, WV – Leaders with the Herbert Henderson Office of Minority Affairs (HHOMA) visited Capital High School on Tuesday to meet with a group of students for the latest stop of HHOMA's 2019 Statewide Listening Tour.

These Listening Tour events give individuals in historically underserved areas of West Virginia a platform to talk to state officials about questions or concerns they have about their communities.

At Tuesday's event, students discussed a wide range of topics that affect young West Virginians and spoke to representatives from state, non-profit, and business organizations on options for life after high school.

"The Herbert Henderson Office of Minority Affairs, along with Governor Justice, want to know exactly what issues and concerns our young citizens have," HHOMA Executive Director Jill Upson said. "We also want to hear directly from the source about what is going to keep our young people in West Virginia after they graduate and seek to begin their careers."

Other organizations that participated in the event include BridgeValley Community and Technical College, the governor's constituent services office, Division of Corrections, Higher Education Policy Commission, Human Rights Commission, Infor, Jobs and Hope WV, Secretary of State’s Office, State Fire Marshall, WV Department of Education, WV Air National Guard, and the Youth Leadership Association.
